More than 80 IT experts are gathering today at "Drive for change", a conference on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) held at Horison Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam. Carried out as part of the FOSS-Bridge EU-Vietnam initiative, this event is organized by InWEnt - Capacity Building International of Germany, INRIA, the French National Research Center in Computer Science and Automation, and IOIT, The Institute of Information and Technology of Vietnam, with funding from the European Union and the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The one week event gathers over 20 Vietnamese and visiting European software companies, who all share a keen interest in Open Source. Apart from offering a platform for face-to-face meetings and exchanging of cooperation ideas, which eventually turn into business agreements, the workshop also focuses on providing technology training offered by eight European IT-companies to their Vietnamese counterparts. In a first round of twinning in November, over 42 deals of joint Vietnamese – European cooperation were initiated, such as between CMC Soft of Vietnam and Bull France and Belgium; Vietsoftware and Yerbabuena, Spain; iWay and OTRS, Germany. More deals are expected to be finalized in the coming days with new companies from Europe and Vietnam participating in FOSS Bridge for the first time. More information? (668Ko)Hanoi 18 April 2007 - High-Level Workshop discusses Open Source Requirements for EU-Vietnam Cooperation in Hanoi A high-level workshop is discussing key issues around Free and Open Source Software such as business models, regulations and requirements to access the European marketplace in Hanoi, Vietnam. The event is organised by the initiative “FOSS-Bridge EU-Vietnam” through InWEnt - Capacity Building International of Germany, INRIA of France and IOIT of Vietnam. The four day event gathers over 30 representatives from key Vietnamese ICT associations and companies, who all share an interest in Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). In group works and through direct interactions with experienced FOSS experts from Europe and Vietnam, they exchange knowledge on international regulations and how to build better capacity in FOSS business models and applications, which meet the needs of the market in Vietnam and internationally. Through two additional 6-days workshops in July and November 2008 the participants are supported in becoming multipliers and trainers of FOSS expertise in Vietnam.
