More than 80 IT experts are gathering today at "Drive for change", a conference on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) held at Horison Hotel in Hanoi, Vietnam. Carried out as part of the FOSS-Bridge EU-Vietnam initiative, this event is organized by InWEnt - Capacity Building International of Germany, INRIA, the French National Research Center in Computer Science and Automation, and IOIT, The Institute of Information and Technology of Vietnam, with funding from the European Union and the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Hanoi 10 June 2007 - Vietnamese and European companies jointly build Free Software out of Hanoi

A matchmaking, training and twinning workshop for European and Vietnamese businesses in the field of Free and Open Source Software is taking place this week in Hanoi, Vietnam. The one week event gathers over 20 Vietnamese and visiting European software companies, who all share a keen interest in Open Source. Apart from offering a platform for face-to-face meetings and exchanging of cooperation ideas, which eventually turn into business agreements, the workshop also focuses on providing technology training offered by eight European IT-companies to their Vietnamese counterparts. In a first round of twinning in November, over 42 deals of joint Vietnamese – European cooperation were initiated, such as between CMC Soft of Vietnam and Bull France and Belgium; Vietsoftware and Yerbabuena, Spain; iWay and OTRS, Germany. More deals are expected to be finalized in the coming days with new companies from Europe and Vietnam participating in FOSS Bridge for the first time.

Hanoi 18 April 2007 - High-Level Workshop discusses Open Source Requirements for EU-Vietnam Cooperation in Hanoi

A high-level workshop is discussing key issues around Free and Open Source Software such as business models, regulations and requirements to access the European marketplace in Hanoi, Vietnam. The event is organised by the initiative “FOSS-Bridge EU-Vietnam” through InWEnt - Capacity Building International of Germany, INRIA of France and IOIT of Vietnam. The four day event gathers over 30 representatives from key Vietnamese ICT associations and companies, who all share an interest in Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). In group works and through direct interactions with experienced FOSS experts from Europe and Vietnam, they exchange knowledge on international regulations and how to build better capacity in FOSS business models and applications, which meet the needs of the market in Vietnam and internationally. Through two additional 6-days workshops in July and November 2008 the participants are supported in becoming multipliers and trainers of FOSS expertise in Vietnam.

Hanoi 05.12.2007 -Bull and CMC Soft have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of a R&D center for OSS in Hanoi.
At the end of the first workshop about Free and Open Source Software organized by Foss-Bridge in the middle of November 2007 in Hanoi, many ideas of bilateral collaboration between the European companies and Vietnamese companies have been recorded. Within, the agreement of collaboration
between two big IT companies, CMCSoft from Vietnam and Bull from France, has attracted attention due to its potential contribution to the development of OSS in the world in general and in Vietnam in particular.

Over 40 IT-companies cross FOSS Bridge between Europe and Vietnam

Hanoi 19 November 2007: A total of 42 agreements of cooperation were reached between Vietnamese and European business partners at the end of the first matchmaking event of the project "FOSS Bridge EU-Vietnam" for small and medium-sized IT enterprises in Hanoi, Vietnam. More deals are expected to
be finalized in the upcoming weeks. The one-week event attracted over 40 IT companies from Vietnam and Germany, France, Spain, Belgium and Sweden, who all share an interest in Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). In over 60 matchmaking encounters, they successfully discussed cooperation plans for joint business in Hanoi from 12 to 16 November - after three months of online interaction and matchmaking through a web platform on www.foss-bridge.org.

Hanoi, 13. November 2007 - Over 40 companies from Vietnam and Europe seek joint business with Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) – First meeting of this kind started in Hanoi, Vietnam

How can you kick-start joint software projects over the distance of more than 8.000 kilometers? This is one of the questions, that over 40 Vietnamese and European FOSS companies from countries such as France, Germany, Spain, Sweden and Belgium are discussing. They started this week the first EU-Vietnamese meeting of this kind in Hanoi, Vietnam. The EU/German sponsored workshop runs from November 12 to 16.

Hannover 14.03.2007 - EU-Vietnam IT project to be launched at CeBIT 2007

The project “Supporting Vietnam to Generate Business out of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS)“ is presented on 15th March at the "CeBIT" in Hannover, the world’s largest IT trade fair. The partner consortium from Germany, Vietnam and France will officially launch the project at the LinuxForum (Hall 5, Booth G65) at 9:30 am. Until 2009 the twinning project will train Vietnamese software enterprises and developers and initiate joint software development projects in FOSS with European IT companies. It thereby aims at an affordable and sustainable ICT model for developing countries and the strengthening of the local ICT service sector.
